NOTICE
Between August 16 - 20th the MNR crews will be conducting netting operations on Crowe Lake. The net sets will be clearly marked with MNR buoys, and lake users are asked to avoid recreational activities in these areas. This operation is part of the Broad-Scale Fisheries Monitoring Program. The information collected will help MNR manage our fish populations effectively and monitor the health of our lakes. For more information contact Dan Taillon, MNR Peterborough District 705-755-2001 or visit www.ontario.ca/mnr

MARMORA & LAKE TO COMPLETE AN INTEGRATED COMMUNITY SUSTAINABILITY PLAN! WATCH FOR DETAILS UNDER THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT LINK!

What is an ICSP
An ICSP is a community driven process that addresses four pillars (economic, social, cultural and environmental) that are direct contributors to the quality of life in the community. It will provide a venue through public meetings where community members can voice their hopes and visions for the future. Research shows that rural centres can be leaders as they have the opportunity to offer a quality of life not found in urban centres. This project will give Marmora and Lake a strong vision for the future and a plan that is action-oriented. The community will begin to see action items implemented quickly and will be proud of the process. If you have any questions please contact Typhany Choinard 613-472-1515 t.choinard@marmoraandlake.ca

Why Develop and ICSP

Developing an ICSP is important for a variety of reasons. It provides a one-window approach to understanding the communities’ vision for the future, and provides a roadmap for getting there. It also fulfills the spirit of the Federal Gas Tax Agreement and secures the continuation of gas tax funding for Ontario’s communities. This funding is available until at least 2014 for environmentally sustainable municipal objectives including the development of ICSP’s. Communities with ICSP’s also have access to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities “Green Fund” to assist with identified projects. This project was also identified as a priority activity in the Marmora and Lake Economic Development Committees 2010 work-plan.

Marmora Medical Centre Renovation Fund
The Marmora Health Committee is busy fundraising for the Marmora Medical Centre Renovation Fund. Renovations are required downstairs to convert an unfinished area to office space and to create more space for a variety of services in the lower level. As many of you know, the Municipality of Marmora and Lake is fortunate to be home to two new doctors committed to start their practice in Marmora over the next few years.  This is very exciting news for our community! Dr. Melissa Holowaty will arrive December 1st 2010 and Dr. Anne Muscat will arrive October 1, 2011.  It will be necessary to renovate the Medical Centre in order to create office and examination rooms for the doctors on the main floor and to finish the space on the lower level in order to accommodate other health related services. We need to raise $65,000.00 to meet this goal. If you are intereted in donating please contact the Municipal Office 613-472-2629.
