New OEB Program Offers Electricity Bill Relief for Low-Income Households

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) is helping make electricity more affordable for low-income households. The Ontario Electricity Support Program, or OESP, provides ongoing assistance directly on the bills of eligible low-income electricity consumers.

Low-income households that apply and qualify will receive an OESP credit on electricity bills. The credit amount is based on the number of people living in the home and their total household income.  For some consumers, the need to use more electricity is unavoidable. They may receive a higher level of assistance. These are people who rely on electric heat or medical devices as well as First Nation and Métis consumers.

The program, designed and implemented by the OEB, will come into effect on January 1, 2016. Applications are now being accepted. Consumers can apply online or with the assistance of local intake agency partners, including Low-Income Energy Assistance Program Emergency Financial Assistance intake agencies.

PRESS RELEASE

 July 9th 2015

 TD Canada Trust Marmora Building

It remains the intention of the municipality to keep the public updated with accurate information regarding the status of the former TD Canada Trust building. There is currently misinformation circulating in the community. “As of today, TD Canada Trust has not formally offered to give the Municipality of Marmora and Lake the TD Canada Trust Building.” stated Mayor Clemens.

The Municipality of Marmora and Lake does recognize that the Marmora Historical Foundation has an interest in remaining in their current location.

At a recent meeting of Council the following resolution was passed:

That the Municipality of Marmora and Lake encourage TD Canada Trust to consider transferring all or the north portion of their Marmora Branch building to the Marmora Historical Foundation.

The municipality will continue communications with TD Canada Trust about the future of the building.
