The Municipality of Marmora and Lake is a lovely community with a population of 4,000. It’s located halfway between Ottawa and Toronto along Highway 7. The village of Marmora is surrounded by water from Crowe River, Crowe Lake and Beaver Creek, and is a thriving municipality that strives to be a desirable place to work, live, vacation and retire.

The Municipality is currently accepting applications for an Economic Development/Tourism Coordinator. This position is a one year contract and will be temporary.
As the Economic Development/Tourism Coordinator you are responsible for the following: 

  • Overseeing the day to day operations of the department, its staff and the Marmora and Lake tourism information centre/Service Ontario centre.
  • Managing financial resources and a budget associated with the Tourism Centre and Service Ontario.
  • Traveling for training for Service Ontario and subsequently peer-to-peer training part-time staff for the centre.
  • Seeking funding from external programs.
  • Attending board and committee meetings, council meetings, workshops and seminars.
  • Managing the Farmers’ Market, interacting with the public and assisting local businesses, planning events and working with local organizations.
  • Updating the Marmora and Lake website, electronic sign, writing press releases and working with the local media.

Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications: 

  • University Degree or College Diploma in marketing, tourism, business, public relations or a related field.
  • At least two years related experience in an office setting.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Act and other relevant legislation is an asset.
  • Grant writing experience is an asset.
  • Prior experience working in a government office is an asset.

Nominations Open for Hastings County Tourism Awards 

Hastings County – Nominations for the sixth annual Hastings County Tourism Awards are now being accepted until Monday, July 31st.

The Hastings County Tourism Awards recognize the significant achievements made by businesses, organizations and individuals who are invested in supporting the tourism industry. This year there are three categories, including Tourism Champion of the Year, Festival of the Year and MVP of the Year. Nominations can be made by anyone who believe that a tourism operator, organization or individual are changing the landscape of the tourism industry with their activities and events.

Recipients of the Tourism Awards will be announced at the Annual Tourism Awards Celebration on Monday, October 23rd at the Village Playhouse in Bancroft, following the Ontario Highland’s Tourism Summit held the same day in Bancroft.

“We look forward to hosting another year of our successful Tourism Awards program and continuing to celebrate our strong tourism industry,” says Hastings County Warden Rodney Cooney. “Being able to partner with our Regional Tourism Organization and host our event alongside their annual Tourism Conference is a welcomed collaboration this year.”

“This year we’ve made changes to the program to make it easier for people to nominate their local tourism champions,” says Tourism Development Coordinator Kasey Rogerson. “We’re anticipating that this year we’ll receive record numbers for both nominations and attendance at this year’s Tourism Awards Celebration.”
